In this article, I will be talking about 3 countries that were unexpectedly defeated in the 2022 FIFA world cup.
1. Argentina
In the first group stage match for Argentina, who is ranked 3rd according to FIFA, the suffered a shocking 2:1 loss to Saudi Arabia (ranked 51st) despite having Lionel Messi, who is one of the best players in the world.
After Messi scored a penalty in the 10th minute, the Saudi Arabian side scores 2 goals in a space of 5 minutes. The goals were scored by Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari in the 48th and 53 minutes.
2. Germany
Germany, who is ranked 11th in the world by FIFA lost their first match to Japan, who is currently ranked 24th in the world.
After İlkay Gündoğan scored a first half penalty for Germany in the 33rd minute, Japan responded with 2 second half goals in the 75th and 83rd minutes. The goals were scored by Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano and the match ended in a 2:1 victory for Japan.
3. Belgium
Belgium suffered an unexpected loss to Morocco after 2 substitutes (Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal) scored goals in the second half of their second group stage match.
After the first goal, in the 73rd minute, Romelu Lukaku was substituted in to try and equalize the game, but Morocco scored another goal in the 92nd minute. This made Belgium, who is currently ranked 2nd by FIFA lose 2:0 to Morocco, who is ranked 22nd.
