Taking care of our eyes involves adopting a healthy lifestyle that promotes eye health. Let us see the views of experts on how to effectively take good care of our eyes in order to prevent eye problems.

1 Don’t rub your hands on your eyes.

Rubbing hands on the eyes have been identified as one way of introducing dangerous bacteria into the eyes. So this habit must be avoided.

2. Frequent hand washing.

Since it is obvious that in one way or the we may rub our hand on our eyes even unconsciously, it is far safer to wash our hands regularly and also avoid rubbing it on our eyes.

3. Eat balanced diet.

The type of diet we eat play an important role in our overall health. Our eyes is one part of our body that benefits from good dieting.

To keep your eyes healthy,you need to be including foods containing beta carotene, lycopene and carotenoids in your diet. Other nutrients which may help a lot with eye health includes vitamin A, C and omega 3 fatty acids.

4. Avoid ultra violet rays of the sun

Ultra violet rays from the sun happens to cause macular degeneration of the eyes. These rays are natural, therefore all we need to do is avoid staying under the sun during bright sun rays.

When it becomes necessary that we have to stay out under the sun,it is necessary to wear protective sunglasses.

5. Drink enough water.

Remaining hydrated is another way of maintaining your eyes. The eyes needs enough water to perform optimally. Poor hydration may result in sunken eyes and other problems.

6. Take enough sleep.

Taking enough sleep is another way you can help your eyes. Sleep deprivation will have negative consequences on your eye health.

7. Minimize screen time.

Looking at the screen too often may also negatively affect your eyes. Where it becomes necessary to look at the screen because of the digital working environment we have today , make sure you observe the 20, 20 ,20 rule.

That is remove your eyes from the screen every 20 minutes and position your computer screen properly to minimize it’s effect on your eyes.

8. Go for regular eye screening.

Many serious eye problems wouldn’t have been very serious if they were detected early enough. So if you visit your eye doctor regularly, he would be able to detect any minor defect on time and recommend appropriate actions that needs to be taken.

9. Go for a blood sugar test if you are up to 45.

People who are up to 45 should not stop at eye check. Another factor which may put your eyes at risk is your blood sugar level. So if you are up to 45,you may also check your blood sugar level.

10. Quit smoking.

Smoking is very dangerous for your health. It may also affect your vision. So if you are smoking already try to quit it. If you are not avoid it.
