When you look at the list of A-list artistes in Nigeria, you will see more artistes from the Yoruba tribe than any other tribe.
The leading and one of the most dominant genres of music in Nigeria currently is Afrobeats.
And when you think about Afrobeats, the first set of people who come to mind is Wizkid, Davido and Burnaboy. Wizkid and Davido are purely Yoruba people while Burna is half-Yoruba.
These 3 are, of course, currently seen as the biggest artistes in Nigeria.
The Nigerian music industry currently has more Yoruba artistes doing good than any other tribe.
Aside from the ones mentioned earlier, we have the likes of Olamide, Joe Boy, Adekunle Gold, Mayorkun, Teni, Ayra Star, Simi, Tems, Zinoleesky, etc.
This is how it has been for over a decade now, the Yoruba people dominating the top seats in the music industry.
There are some factors that have been aiding the domination of the Yoruba tribe among others in the music industry for years, which has made it stand out among other tribes in the music industry.
The first thing is how ready they are to help each other. The Yoruba people are always ready to support their brothers and sisters. There have been so many cases where a big Yoruba artiste helped another Yoruba artiste become big.
For instance Olamide lifting Lil Kesh and Adekunle Gold, Wizkid lifting Tems, Davido lifting Mayorkun, Olamide lifting Portable and so on. This has been a thing among the Yoruba people which has been helping them a lot.
Another thing that has made the Yorubas dominate the music industry for over a decade is location. Lagos is seen as the center of entertainment in Nigeria.
Now, Lagos is a Yoruba land with more Yoruba people. Most artistes from other tribes had to relocate to Lagos to get into the limelight.
This has even resulted in a lot of non-Yoruba artistes infusing the Yoruba language in their songs.
This, of course, has given the Yorubas the upper hand in the music industry.
