Giroud broke Henry’s record as France men’s national team’s all-time top scorer on Sunday after scoring the first of France’s three goals in their 3-1 win over Poland in the round of sixteen of the 2022 World Cup.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker had equalled Henry’s 15-year-old record when he scored two goals in Les Blues 4-1 win over Australia.

Speaking after the game, Gyang told SuperSport that Giroud was able to get that number of goals because he is always in the box as an outright striker, which, according to him, Henry was not.

“In terms of quality, Giroud is always in the box like a typical number nine, but if you watch what Thierry Henry has done, I don’t think he[Giroud] has come close to what Henry has done.

“But one thing about Giroud is that whenever he gets that chance he puts it there. He’s one of the strikers that I have seen that when he gets in the box, gets the touch, he gets it there.
