Without Fuel Subsidy, All These Politicians Will Not Be Using More Than 6 Cars To Move Around – Kyari

Mele Kyari, the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has come out to say that fuel subsidy has been more beneficial to the elites in Nigeria than most people would think.

According to Mr. Kyari who appeared in an interview on Arise Tv this morning, diesel should be the product being subsidised if subsidy is for the benefit of the masses as most big vehicles, transporting goods run on diesel engines.

“In Nigeria, the subsidy is valuable to the elites. When you come to Abuja today, you see convoy of cars, of executives, politicians and high ranking government workers. You see convoy of 5-6 cars consuming up to 100 litres each and the meaning of this is that we are actually subsidising this class of people.

Without fuel subsidy, these politicians using 6 cars will not be using them. I am sure you are aware that more of the big vehicles used for the transportation of goods and commodities run on diesel so therefore if there any subsidy that would be of value to the common man, it should go to A.G.O (diesel). But that’s not there, what you have is subsidy on PMS (fuel).”
