1 September 1993, William Troost-Ekong started his professional football career after signing the dotted lines for Dutch based side, Groningen in 2013. Spending (3) years with, Groningen, the rock solid defender opted for a loan move which had him team up with another Dutch based outfit, Dordrecht on loan in 2014.

Upon his contract expiration with Groningen, Troost-Ekong landed in Belgium where he signed the dotted lines for Gent in 2015. In search of playing time, youthful Troost-Ekong opted for a loan move which availed him the opportunity to ply his trade in the Norwegian Eliteserien league with Haugesund.

Making (39) appearances with, Haugesund, Troost-Ekong completed a move to Turkey where he signed up for Bursaspor in 2013.

The Nigerian defender turned a hot cake as he attracted loads of offers before settling with Italian Serie A side, Udinese in 2018 from where he landed in England with Watford Football Club in 2020.
