During a press briefing on Wednesday, August 21, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi stated Ruto had been programmed to officiate the event.

The Prime CS revealed the event would be held on Tuesday, August 27, reiterating the need for a united front as a country.

Mudavadi further celebrated Ruto’s commitment to ensuring the former prime minister clinches the seat in February 2025

“It is also programmed that next week, on the 27th of August, 2024, His Excellency President William Ruto will be formally launching the candidacy of the Kenyan candidate, Raila Odinga. I wish to applaud Ruto for fully endorsing and supporting the candidature of Raila Odinga,” he said.

Mudavadi observed that Raila’s candidacy represents numerous aspects of Kenya, urging the nation to rally behind him. Mudavadi argued that, like international sporting events, it’s time for Kenyans to rally behind one of their own.

“Raila Odinga represents Kenya’s voice, values and aspirations on the continent. As he steps forward let us stand with him not just as a government but a united people.

Just as we cheered our athletes in the recent Olympics, let us lend our full support to Raila as he carries the Kenyan flag high in the race for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. This is more than a candidacy, it is a national mission,” he added.

As reported earlier, Fawzia Adam’s support enhanced Raila’s chances of being the next African Union Commission chairperson. The former Somali minister for Foreign Affairs had declared her bid in March but shelved it months later. She met Raila in Nairobi on Friday, August 9. It is in their meeting that she declared her support for Kenya’s longstanding opposition leader.

Citing experience and commitment to championing the African continent’s interests, Raila declared his bid for the job on February 15. The candidature was immediately endorsed by former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, who recognised the former prime minister’s Pan-Africanism spirit.

Raila immediately lobbied for his candidature, currently having over eight heads of state in the continent in his fold. The AUC chairperson post falls vacant in 2025 following the lapse of Moussa Faki’s second and last term…CONTINUE READING>>
