In the new plan, Kenyans will be required to part with 2.75 per cent of their monthly salaries towards the scheme with the minimum capped at Ksh.300.

Under NHIF, Kenyans pay an average ranging from Ksh.150 to Ksh.1,700 for employed workers and Ksh.500 for the self-employed.

To facilitate a smooth transition, President William Ruto’s cabinet announced a mass registration process commencing on June 21, 2024 across all counties.

Further, Principal Secretary of State Department for Medical Services, Harry Kimtai revealed that Kenyans would register using their mobile devices. Those who seek assistance can visit any public hospital or be helped by the community health promoters situated across the counties.

“Registration will be done at the comfort of your hand with either a smart phone or the other normal cellular phones,” PS Kimtai said during a forum at Allens Hotel in Nandi County on Tuesday.

The Social Health Insurance Act, 2023, provides a sample registration form listing the requirements needed.

The form includes five sections; Principal member’s personal details, Address and Contact Details, Declaration of Dependents, Amendment and Declaration.

This includes your details such as name, employment type, ID number, civil status, date of birth and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) pin.

Address and Contact Details

Provide details of your physical address, personal and business contacts, county of residence and postal address. Those residing abroad are required to reveal their state of residence and ZIP code.

Declaration of Dependents

List details of dependents as stated in their ID cards such as name and date of birth. Also reveal the relationship you share with your dependent and preferred Primary Care Networks (PCNs). A PCN is any facility that provides healthcare services to the community.

If your dependent has a disability, a section is provided whereby you will provide the details.

This section remains open for when you will seek to amend any information provided in the future. This includes marital status, change of name, change of dependents etc.

The final part involves appending your signature to the document to confirm that all the details provided are accurate. If unable to write, you can also provide your right thumbmark as a fingerprint.

When filling out the document, you are required to write in capital letters. Don’t leave any blank section, if not applicable write N/A.
