According to what he said, Atiku Abubakar advised Wike that Senator Iyorchia Ayu must resign as party chairman.

He said, “When we finished our convention on Sunday, our presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar) came to see me in my house in Abuja on Monday around 10:30 am. He told me ‘I want us to work together,’ and then he said, ‘look, Ayu must go.'”

According to Wike, when he questioned Atiku about why he had suggested Ayu must resign, Atiku replied, “Because, when a candidate comes from the Northern part of the country, the chairman will come from the Southern half of the country.”

Wike continued by saying that all he asks for now is that Atiku follow through on what he told him back then, and that he has done nothing wrong.

He said, “So, I want the presidential candidate to deny this. If he denies it, I will go further to say so many things to Nigerians because enough is enough.”
