Vihiga: A teacher at Keveye Girls High School, has forced a student to smash her phone to smithereens in front of other teachers and other students.

A video of the punishment at the school shared by Channel 7 News TV EA shows a teacher holding the reluctant student by the waist and forcing her to bend and smash the phone that was already on the ground.

The girl finally squatted before the phone and started smashing it, and the hawk-eyed teacher watched her until the end.

Kenyans who saw the video shared from the Vihiga-based school had mixed reactions about the act, with some saying she was too harsh and others thinking that it served the young girl right as they are not supposed to carry phones to school.

Some people also thought that such punishments would strain the relationships between teachers and students.

They advocated for the teachers to take the phones until the students went home as they cost a lot of money.

“Tuendelee namna hiyo hiyo….you don’t break rules then dictate the consequences na uzuri the students are all aware of the consequences of bringing phone to school.”

“Schools should come up with a policy for fining parents in case students are found in possession of contraband items in school.”

“Very right, discipline should be injected by all means. Why come with a phone while you know it’s illegal?”

Chris Chris Beiby:

“Huyu mwalimu anahitaji zawadi, kids nowadays wanaenda na masimu shule alaf wanaenda kuongea na wababaz wakitoka shule wanapatana from there wanapata shida shule inaanza kulaumiwa, kongole madam.”

In another story, a young student could not believe his eyes after he was made to smash a phone that he took to school, flouting rules in the process.

The boy who attends Butula Boys High School in Busia was seen hitting the phone and tearing it apart bit by bit, and many Kenyans said it was the right move since he broke the rules.
