He may not be in the same league as South Africa’s great Nelson Mandela or Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah, but at least, there is a special place for him in the African history pages.

Going forward, the son of Kenya’s first President, Jomo Kenyatta, has redefined African politics. And may be, we will have a totally different political dispensation.

By embracing his biggest political rival in ODM leader Raila Odinga, Uhuru confirmed to the world that politics is not enmity. In fact, their 2018 handshake deal came as a surprise to even their own close associates. No one saw it coming.

What begun as a political ceasefire deal has now grown to something much bigger. On Saturday, the world was treated to some rare political spectre. Who saw it coming?

A sitting President was attending the opposition party’s NDC meeting. Earlier, the country’s opposition leader had attended the ruling party’s high- level meeting. It is one of the biggest shocks in the history of Africa!

The pomp and colour at Kasarani Stadium,will be told for generations to come. For the first time in the history of the world, a sitting President endorsed an opposition candidate to succeed him.

Going forward, this rare occurrence may be taught in Political Science classes, both in Kenya and Africa. Even when he exits office, the man from Gatundu has made a name for himself. Indeed, Uhuru will go down as one of the greatest Presidents ever in the history of Africa. His moves will no doubt change the course of history.

On Tuesday, after the deadly street protests that culminated in the storming of Kenyan Parliament by young protestors, Uhuru is among those who have called out Ruto’s government, accusing it of high-handedness.

Uhuru’s statement has been received by Kenyans with too much love and excitement. This is a sign of admiration and respect that Kenyans have for their former President. As such, it enhances his reputation as one of the greatest Presidents that Africa has ever produced...CONTINUE READING>>
