According to a statement shared by the DCI on Monday, August 5, 2024, the two, Jama Hirbo and Tasu Hirbo, were on Monday, August 5, 2024, arrested by sleuths drawn from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit which is domiciled at the anti-crime agency’s headquarters along Kiambu Road.

DCI says the duo was trying to bribe the said officers, who are based at the agency’s headquarters.

“Jama Hirbo and Tasu Hirbo found themselves in hot soup after attempting to bribe officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit domiciled at the DCI headquarters with Ksh50,000,” part of DCI statement reads.

DCI added that the duo was apprehended in the Huruma area in Nairobi County while trying to secure the release of their friends by bribing the officers with Ksh50,000.

According to the DCI, the people the suspects were trying to secure their release are victims of human trafficking, who are currently being held at Isinya Police Station in Kajiado County.

“The duo were caught red-handed in Huruma area Nairobi County, trying to grease the palms of the officers to secure the release of human trafficking victims held at Isinya Police Station in Kajiado County,” the statement reads.

Following their arrest, the two suspects were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station for further processing – DCI noted.

The agency stated that the money that was being used to bribe the DCI officers was seized and has been kept as an exhibit.
