The football transfer market is an interesting one; once in a while you will find a top player out of contract and after a standoff in talks with current employers, opts to leave for free. We have seen big-name players like Gianluigi Donnarumma seal such a move, Lionel Messi and more....CONTINUE READING

However, in the coming summer transfer window, we are faced with a situation where a whole lot of top players will be available on free transfers and it will be a very interesting period, unless their parent clubs open talks and settle matters before then.

History has shown that such players are at their best in the season before they become free agents, which largely raises their value in the transfer market. Such are also the best to bet on when staking in matches they are involved in.

Sites like 22Bet offer some of the top incentives when staking bets, with their expanded markets and worldwide reach.

For example, the 22Bet welcome bonus which is highlighted on Wincomparator can be great for new sign-ups looking to bet on these top players. So, who are some of the best players set to become free agents?

1. Lionel Messi:

The Argentine’s move from Barcelona to PSG last season was termed one of the biggest free transfers, and the period between his exit from Barcelona and entry at PSG said it all.

After two seasons, Messi may make headlines again with a free transfer move, unless PSG start talks over the option to extend, which exists in his two-year deal. Over his stay in France, Messi has been linked with a return to Barca.

2, Cristiano Ronaldo:

A second stint at Manchester United hasn’t been quite fruitful. Ronaldo isn’t playing in the Champions League this season and being in his final year, the season hasn’t started well for him.

He has gone down the pecking order since Erik ten Hag’s arrival and though there exists an option to extend his deal by a year, there are no reports of talks to that end.

3. N’Golo Kante:

One of the best midfielders around is set to be a free agent in the coming summer unless his team, Chelsea moves with speed to secure an extension.

He has been a standout player since joining the Blues from Leicester City and is being linked with a number of top European clubs, Barcelona included.

4. Karim Benzema:

One of the most lethal forwards in the world at the moment, the Frenchman has been the star player for Real Madrid over the past few seasons.

He is in line for the 2022 Ballon D’Or but his contract runs out in 2023. His contract dealings are always notably silent and an extension at Real Madrid will not be a surprise.

5. Ilkay Gundogan:

The Turkish born German international wasn’t expected to have such a stellar impact at Manchester City when he arrived in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund.

He has however turned out to be a top option for Pep Guardiola. However, as all good things come to an end, so is his contract with City, and next summer he will be available for free, unless City offer an extension.
