A Russian military cargo plane crashed in the city of Ryazan southeast of Moscow, killing four crew members and injuring five others.

The incident happened during a training flight on Friday, the defense ministry said in a statement quoted by local news agencies.

The plane was on a training flight without cargo when the crew decided to land because of an engine malfunction but it was partially destroyed when it hit the ground.

Russian Official Assassinated in Car Bomb

Dmitry Savluchenko, a senior official in the Russian-installed administration of Ukraine’s occupied Kherson region was killed in an apparent assassination on Friday.

Pavlyuchenkoko, head of the families, youth, and sports department of the Kherson Military-Civilian Administration, was killed in a bomb blast.

Russia’s TASS news agency said there were two burnt-out cars in a courtyard of Kherson, the regional capital where the blast took place, and that the windows of one four-story house had been shattered.

EU needs to buy energy collectively to avert winter crisis, Belgian PM says

EU countries need to start buying energy collectively and implement price caps on gas to avert a major crisis in the coming winter, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said on Friday.

“We need to form an energy bloc. If we all operate on our own, we will go down on our own”, De Croo said before a meeting with EU leaders in Brussels.

“We need to start buying energy collectively, we need to implement price caps and we need to make plans together to get through the winter.”

Friend lures 16-year-old into the bush, plucks out eyes

Sixteen-year-old Uzairu Salisu of Kwanan Gulmanmu, Jahun quarters in Bauchi metropolis was left in a pool of blood after one Ibrahim of Rafin Zurfi lured him into the bush and forcefully removed his two eyes.

Bauchi Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

Its spokesman SP Ahmed Wakili said it received a distress call from the Ward Head of Birshi, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, Mohammed Lawa, that Salisu was found in a pool of blood and struggling to stay alive.

ASUU sues Edo varsity over alleged contempt of court

The Ambrose Alli University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has filed a suit at the Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Benin, Edo State capital, against the management of the institution over what it termed as the selective payments of January and February 2022 salaries of workers.

In the suit numbered NICN/BEN/04/2022, dated June 22, 2022, the AAU chapter of the ASUU accused the management of the institution of contempt of court orders of February 2 and May 17, 2022, mandating the payment of January and February 2022 salaries of some members of ASUU, who were aggrieved by the biometric verification exercise.

The plaintiffs in the suit, alongside ASUU, were the Chairman, ASUU, AAU Ekpoma chapter, Dr. Cyril Onogbosele, and the Assistant Secretary, Dr. William Odion, against six defendants in the suit including the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Asomwan Adagbonyin, and the acting Registrar, Mr. Ambrose Odiase.
