Mahmoud was on his way to Fort Jesus to meet the very generous tourists that flock the site for a brief session on history, the conquests of Persia in mind, the travels of Marco Polo, Vasco da Gama’s exploits and a demonstration on how the battle was won with help from the Sea!!

Unfortunately, he met the thugs on his way. They waited for him at an isolated corner, ordered him to hand over his makeshift means of transportation. When he started to beg them to leave him alone, one of them picked him up and threw his frail body on the ground, using foul language to describe him, calling him “babu tale mlemavu mjinga anayenuka makwapa”.

Kalama, one of the thugs was the first to take off. Shortly after, the other two joined him in removing their baggy trousers and heading for the beach, where they knelt down and started feasting on the sand, like a traveler new to the coastal dish of Pilau ya Kumenya na Kusaga!! A small crowd gathered to witness the daylight drama as Mahmoud appeared with a nephew, who was helping him get to the scene with a stick.

Mahmoud took the opportunity to announce to the gathered, perplexed crowd that he had contacted a native doctor called Dr. Mugwenu to punish the thieves and recover his expensive wheelchair…CONTINUE READING>>
