Despite the hardships, Ruto never gave up; instead, he opted to fight through the struggles and challenges to rise to the prestigious position he holds today.

And the people he has to thank for his achievements are his parents, who brought him up in a strict Christian way. They were strict, and never spared the rod, when he made a mistake.

William Samoei Ruto was born in Sambut village in Kamagut (now Uasin Gishu County) to Mzee Daniel and Sarah Cheruiyot.

According to the late Mzee Kibor, Ruto’s father owned a herd of cows, which provided him with milk that he supplied to the Kenya Cooperative Creameries Limited (KCC).

In addition, Mzee Daniel supplied tonnes of maize to the National Cereal Produce Board.

Mzee Daniel started off as a small-scale farmer but later advanced to a large-scale maize farmer.

Thanks to his abled children, who decided to uplift him after he sacrificed a lot for the sake of their education.
