Chelsea were in the market for a new striker having allowed Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter on loan following his disappointing first season back at Stamford Bridge.
The signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona came toward the end of the transfer window, however Chelsea was unable to clinch a deal prior to that point.
While Mikel Arteta was also eager to improve his offensive options, Jesus ultimately decided to join Arsenal in a £45 million deal from City.
The Chelsea management reportedly spoke with Tuchel last summer about the possibility of signing Jesus, but the notion was rejected, according to The Guardian.

According to the article, the Chelsea board reportedly expressed “surprise” at Tuchel’s decision to oppose a move for Jesus.
Graham Potter took over for Tuchel after he was fired by Chelsea in September, but according to The Guardian, the club’s administration now “regrets” how rapidly they changed managers.
Potter was fired from his position as manager of Chelsea less than seven months after taking over at Stamford Bridge, and the club finished the season with the fewest points ever earned in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is still looking for a striker, and new manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to team up with Harry Kane, who he previously worked with at Tottenham.
Kane has been identified by Manchester United as their top priority for the summer transfer season, but it’s unlikely that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would ever approve a move for Kane to join Chelsea.
