According to President William Ruto, Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa, and Uasin Gishu are among the first counties set to benefit from the government jobs.

“The initiative will start in Nairobi County and then progressively spread to other counties across the country to provide employment opportunities in line with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation,” President Ruto stated.

“After one month we shall include all the remaining counties in the program because we want to have about 200,000 youths dealing with the environmental issues.”

When he was in Kisumu, Ruto announced the Climate Works Mtaani initiative on 31st August. Ruto said the initiative will help in managing the country’s environmental sustainability.

In the housing sector, he said several jobs are available while asking young people with different skills to take advantage of the constriction of affordable housing at Lumumba estate in Kisumu.

“We are creating jobs for young people in the digital platform, markets, manufacturing and export of labour,” he said.

According to Ruto, the Climate Works Mtaani initiative will also include the engagement of the youth in planting trees even as the government seeks to accelerate the 15 Billion National Tree Growing Programme.
