Born on July 15, 1974, in Kisoro District, Hon. Mateke was raised in a family that valued education and community service. She attended Kisoro High School before pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Makerere University.

Her passion for teaching and community development led her to work as a teacher and later as a district councillor, where she championed girls’ education and women’s empowerment.

Hon. Mateke’s entry into national politics was marked by her election as the woman representative for Kisoro District in the Ugandan 11th Parliament.

She quickly made a name for herself as a vocal advocate for gender equality, labour rights, and social justice. Her expertise and leadership earned her a ministerial appointment in 2021, where she continued to push for inclusive policies and programs.

Throughout her life, Hon. Mateke was guided by her strong Christian faith and a commitment to serving others. She was a devoted wife, mother, and mentor, inspiring countless young women and girls to pursue their dreams.

Hon. Mateke’s passing leaves a void in the lives of many, who will deeply miss her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to creating a better Uganda. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the policies she helped shape.
