During a memorial service for journalist Mercy Mawia at AIC Milimani in Nairobi, Kalonzo asserted that Opposition leader Raila Odinga was misled into joining the Kenya Kwanza government and vowed his party would avoid the same error.

Kalonzo criticized the new Cabinet nominated by President Ruto, stating it did not represent national unity as it mainly included members from the Kenya Kwanza coalition and Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Accompanied by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and former Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, Kalonzo disclosed that Raila had met with Azimio principals to explain why he had his top party officials Ali Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi join Ruto’s Cabinet. However, they told Raila they would not participate.

Raila, Kalonzo, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Kanu National Chairman Gideon Moi, former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, and Siaya Governor James Orengo all attended the meeting.

After the meeting, Kalonzo stated that the remainder of the Azimio alliance will join Kenyans in opposing Ruto’s government.

“Some of us are so clear in our minds that there’s nothing called Government of National Unity. All that Kenya Kwanza did was to poach four members from ODM. So Raila sought to explain to us what happened,” Kalonzo said.

This was not the first time Kalonzo has distanced himself from Ruto’s proposed formation of a government of national unity. Kalonzo called the four ODM leaders’ decision to join the redesigned Cabinet a betrayal to Kenyans and criticized them for it.

“We shall not participate in or support the proposed Ke- nya Kwanza-led broad-based government of national unity. This is a betrayal of the Kenyan people, particularly Gen-Zand millennials, who have paid the ultimate price,” Kalonzo said two weeks ago...CONTINUE READING>>
