During the interview, Gachagua pointed out plans put in place to oust him from his seat, urging President William Ruto to step in and thwart the attempts by Members of Parliament to impeach him.

Reactions are expected to stream in following Gachagua’s remarks, also indicating that he was denied access to the president’s diary, ultimately keeping him in the dark on the country’s affairs despite being the second in command.

President Ruto is expected to speak and present the challenges Africa and Kenya face on the global stage during the United Nations General Assembly high-level talks next week.

While the conference began on September 10, the highly anticipated discussions involving several Heads of State will happen on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. On his way out of the country, Ruto was escorted to the airport by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, a few officials of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and a host of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party officials.

The ruling party is facing cracks within itself, signalling what could be an implosion in the coming weeks. On September 20, 2024, the party held a meeting with students christened UDA comrade chapter launch which ended in disarray after the students who had largely been facilitated to attend the function turned against its organisers.

In an unprecedented move, the students were filmed chanting slogans against the party leader while adorning T-shirts of the party after the Head of Digital Economy and special projects Dennis Itumbi attempted to justify government projects to them.

Itumbi’s speech was briefly interrupted after the students’ jeers prevailed.
