Following his approval on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Douglas Kanja is expected to be sworn in soon after his approval hearings are determined today September 18, 2024, in Parliament.

If approved, Kanja, a seasoned police officer who has been in the service for nearly four decades, will take over from Gilbert Masengeli who is facing a jail sentence of up to six months in prison. Masengeli has been holding the position in an acting capacity.

Following his sentencing by High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi, Masengeli has defied all the court orders demanding that he present himself to the Commissioner General – Kenya Prisons to serve time.

After a revelation by the Judicial Service Commission that the security detail of High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi was withdrawn, acting inspector general of police Gilbert Masengeli has been embroiled in a face-saving mission, denying the claims.

Reactions are expected on Masengeli’s blatant disregard for court orders even as his press statements maintain the withdrawal of the judge’s bodyguards had nothing to do with his sentencing after snubbing summonses seven times.

The recommendations include logistics, mobility, and equipment to be used by the National Police Service, the Prisons Service, and the National Youth Service (NYS) to enhance their work and streamline service delivery to the public.
