During a panel interview on Daybreak, he explained that the majority of the senators had agreed that the charges against Mwangaza were too weak and did not hold grounds to impeach the governor.

However, according to Osotsi, Senators aligned to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) changed their positions two hours before the voting session, sealing Mwangaza’s fate.

“Just the other day, when we were dealing with the impeachment of the Meru governor, we sat there for two days listening to the presentation of both parties and most of us agreed that the charges were too weak and not impeachable,” the senator said.

“2 hours before the elections, our colleagues from the UDA side mysteriously changed their positions and decided to impeach the lady and us on the Azimio side and stood firm and said no, not because we’re against the people of Meru but because the charges presented were too weak to impeach a governor,” he added.

The Senator also alluded to a meeting in State House whereby a section of Meru leaders laid an ultimatum to President William Ruto to choose between them or the governor.

“It was political because you heard some of the leaders from Meru county went to State House and they told President Ruto to choose between them or the governor.”

Senator Osotsi also accused Parliament of being the weakest link in the governance system, claiming that majority of legislators act as a puppet for the Executive.

He referenced the repealed Finance Bill 2024 whereby the majority of MPs passed the bill despite a public uproar against it.

“Parliament is the weakest link now in our governance system because it has been hijacked by the executive. If you look at the way National Assembly functions, you saw they passed the draconian and punitive law in Finance Bill against the outcry by Kenyans and most of the MPs did not vote yes because of their convictions but it’s what the executive wanted to happen,” Osotsi alleged…CONTINUE READING>>
