Speaking during a live show on Citizen TV, the senator argued the State, based on how invested it is in the bid has been counting its chicks before they hatch since in his view, it is too early to determine if Raila will win or not.

The senator then proceeded to poke holes into President Ruto’s development tour of the Nyanza region which kicked off on Wednesday. The senator questioned whether this was wise considering that residents of the region will be expecting the former Prime Minister to win.

“President Ruto has quickly rushed to Nyanza but will be in a lot of trouble if Raila doesn’t get the bid”, Maanzo said.

President William Ruto began his 4-day tour to Nyanza on Wednesday, just a day after he officially launched Raila’s bid for the AUC at State House.

During the tour, Ruto will inspect the Lower Kuja Irrigation Project and conclude the visit with the inauguration of the Ngere-Mapera Road. On the first day of his visit, Ruto was accompanied by several leaders from the region and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

So far, Raila Odinga has the support of Presidents Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, and Salva Kiir of South Sudan. Burundi Rwanda and Nigeria have also expressed their support for Raila.

Raila is seeking to replace Moussa Faki of Chad whose term is ending early next year.

Speaking during his candidature launch at State House, Raila promised that he would make the AU a people-centered organization and to work with all heads of state to achieve this.

” I will utilize the transition period if elected to critically analyze the existing proposals for reforms and building capacity of the AU Commission.”

While acknowledging the recurrent challenges Africa faces, Raila pledged to preside over a united Africa and not one divided by regions.

During the launching of Raila’s candidature, President Ruto expressed his confidence in Raila’s capacity to clinch the post and even overperform.

The ball is now on Raila’s court as he is expected to start the most critical part of the process which will be reaching out to other African countries to support his bid…CONTINUE READING>>
