In an address to the German parliament, Scholz said, “My advice to Beijing is clear: use your influence in Moscow to advocate for the evacuation of Russian soldiers, and do not give arms to the aggressor Russia.

The chancellor also promised that Germany would keep providing humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine in order to assist the nation in fending off an invasion by Russia.

He stated, in response to those calling for Ukraine to begin talks with Russia on a cease-fire to end the conflict, “love of peace does not entail subjugation to a stronger neighbor. The end of Ukraine would occur if it ceased defending itself, not peace.

Scholz added, “Our European peace order is defendable. “By ‘never again,’ we mean that war of aggression as a tool of politics will never be used again. Our pledge to “never again” ensures that Putin’s imperialism will fail.

With a gun pointed at your temple, there is no room for negotiation, he declared. Scholz added that Germany is attempting to reach the 2% defense spending goal set by NATO.

Scholz stated, “My commitment, which I made here on February 27 of last year, stands true,” and added that the government would raise the defense budget as a whole to accomplish this objective.

Three days after Russia began its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Scholz delivered a “turning point” speech that led to the transfer of arms to Ukraine and a significant rise in German military spending.

Since that speech, Germany has emerged as one of Ukraine’s top arms suppliers. The 100 billion-euro ($106 billion) military procurement budget that the chancellor established received solid support from lawmakers in June, including the main opposition party.
