Atandi, a confidant of Azimio leader Raila Odinga, said they were against Ruto’s government because he had not incorporated ODM leaders into his administration.

He explained that since ODM leaders had been appointed to key positions, opposing the government would be a toll order.

“Ruto was bad because he had not put our people in his government. That is why we kept opposing him; he da not put our people in his government. But for now, he’s added our people in his government, so we cannot oppose him. Are we together? How many agree with that? Can you oppose a government where Opiyo Wandayi is in charge? Isn’t that impossible? That is why at the moment, we are supporting Ruto,” Atandi said in his local dialect amid cheers.

The president appointed four ODM leaders to his Cabine t on Wednesday, July 24. Ali Hassan Joho was appointed by Ruto as the Cabinet Secretary for the Maritime Affairs, Blue Economy, and Mining Ministries.

The National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary is now John Mbadi. James Opiyo Wandayi, a former minority leader in the National Assembly, was appointed as the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum’s Cabinet secretary.

Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, a former governor of Kakamega, received the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development docket.

He proposed Beatrice Askul Moe for the position of Cabinet Secretary for East Africa Community and Regional Development on Tuesday, July 30.

Elsewhere, Kisumu residents declined to engage in Nane Nane protests following the appointment of ODM leaders to Ruto’s Cabinet.

A resident said they had returned to their businesses and would not engage in protests, as their leaders have now been included in Kenya Kwanza’s government.
