The leaders announced their defection after a meeting with UDA’s leadership on Tuesday, during which they held discussions with UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar at the party’s headquarters.

Following the talks, UDA made a statement on social media platforms, confirming the leaders’ decision to align themselves with President William Ruto’s administration.

The defectors pledged to support Ruto’s development agenda and uphold the party’s values and leadership structure.

“A section of ODM leaders from Marsabit county have decamped to join the UDA Party. The leaders, drawn mainly from the minority Burji community announced their political decision after holding consultative talks with UDA Party Secretary General Hassan Omar at the UDA headquarters,” stated UDA

Speaking on the matter, Omar said that UDA’s manifesto is inclusive and supportive of minority groups across Kenya. He said that the party has established a special department dedicated to addressing the needs of marginalized communities.

Omar further elaborated that both the UDA party and the government are working towards unlocking the economic potential of remote countries like Marsabit. He mentioned that the party’s strategy focuses on enhancing sectors such as agriculture, trade, and overall economic development, in line with its policy framework.

“They vowed to support President William Ruto’s development agenda and remain loyal to UDA philosophy and leadership,” added UDA

The UDA party, which identifies with principles of good governance, inclusivity, and equity, seeks to create an enabling environment for business growth, human resource development, and political stability. Its leadership has promised to work towards building a prosperous and just society in Kenya.
