However, President Ruto stressed that the country’s lasting security, stability, and progress in development can only be achieved if these officers are committed and effective in their duties.
Addressing a gathering of Regional Commissioners, County Commissioners, and Deputy County Commissioners, the President reaffirmed the importance of their roles, stating, “Your position in this country is constitutional, legal, and proper. It’s now your chance to serve Kenyans with dignity.”
The President assured the officials of continued government support, recognizing their close work with citizens at the grassroots level. “We will support and equip you to provide leadership in your respective areas and help unlock Kenya’s potential,” he said, urging them to uphold the rule of law and fairness as they perform their duties in the country’s vibrant democracy.
President Ruto also highlighted the importance of the officials’ involvement in the Affordable Housing Programme and Social Health Insurance, noting that the success of these initiatives depends significantly on their grassroots outreach and public education efforts. Additionally, he directed them to ensure that all parents in their areas send their children to school, reminding them that the Children’s Act mandates education for all children.
The President announced that the government would provide the officers with electric vehicles as official transport, citing their cost-effectiveness. “In the coming months, you will receive electric vehicles that can cover 300km on a full charge,” he said.
Furthermore, President Ruto revealed that the government is advancing plans to involve village elders in enhancing security at the grassroots level. He also noted that the first group of 400 officers is nearing completion of training aimed at improving their skills.
