The rebranded initiative, now called ‘Climate Work Mtaani,’ will be overseen by NYS officers and will focus on environmental conservation and greening efforts across Kenya.
In his address, President Ruto touched on the significance of the new initiative in tackling climate change through proactive environmental measures.
“NYS will be in charge of supervising the young people recruited under our Climate Work Mtaani initiative.”
According to Ruto, the program is designed to engage more youth in activities that promote environmental sustainability, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to addressing climate change.
Ruto instructed the NYS minister to collaborate with the ministers responsible for environment, housing, and defense to lead this initiative, with a goal of planting 15 billion trees as part of Kenya’s climate action strategy.
The revamped program expands its mission beyond the original Kazi Mtaani’s focus on infrastructure and community service, now incorporating environmental goals.
The initiative aims to create jobs for young people while also contributing significantly to the country’s environmental objectives.
