The head of state said this on Thursday, July 11, during a public address at the Statehouse, Nairobi, where he dissolved his Cabinet following demands from Gen Z protestors.

“Over the past two years, the government has rallied the country behind the bottom-up economic transformation agenda, the basis upon which we were elected in the democratic election of 2022. We have achieved significant progress,” said Ruto.

Ruto said the Kenya Kwanza government has achieved significant progress, including:

Increased food production: He noted that the government reduced the cost of farm inputs, thereby lowering the cost of food.

Stabilised economy: Ruto said this was achieved by preventing what was an imminent debt default Stabilised fuel prices.

Lowered inflation to an all record low of 4.6%.

Stabilised foreign exchange regime.

The head of state also highlighted radical changes implemented in the education sector. Ruto said his administration resolved the issues surrounding the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), rolled out a new university funding model focusing on students from vulnerable families, and employed more teachers.

Other achievements the head of state highlighted are the Hustler Fund and the affordable housing programme, which has employed more than 160,000 youths.

“To expand manufacturing, value addition and agro-processing as a key contributor to job creation, 18 County Aggregation and Industrial Parks and 6 new Special Economic Zones are under construction. At the same time, 200 integrated fresh produce markets are at various stages of construction to support farmers and traders, he said.

This followed a push by the Kenyan youth who vowed to continue with demonstrations against Ruto’s government, demanding the removal of the housing levy.

The young men and women also asked the Kenya Kwanza Alliance administration to restore the Linda Mama and EduAfya programmes.
