Wafula explains that during their candidacy, Ruto issued a clear warning to Gachagua about what would happen if he ever crossed legal boundaries. In a video statement, Wafula notes that Ruto said, “I have already told my deputy what will happen if he goes wrong. There is the law, and the law will take its course.” This suggests that Ruto intends to rely on legal frameworks rather than personal intervention to deal with any issues involving Gachagua.

Ruto emphasized that his approach to handling any possible misconduct by Gachagua would strictly follow the law. He mentioned that if the Deputy President were to misuse his office or engage in unconstitutional activities, the law would handle it. Ruto further promised to ensure that the Office of the Deputy President remains functional and serves the people of Kenya effectively.
