During an interview on Inooro TV on Sunday, August 4, Gachagua opened up about his immense contribution to the growth of the ruling party.

The DP revealed that he single-handedly funded President William Ruto’s presidential campaigns in vote-rich the Mt Kenya region. Gachagua claimed Ruto didn’t give money during the electoral process, adding that he has the financial muscle.

The DP affirmed his status as a wealthy man, explaining that he made a lot of money during former president Mwai Kibaki’s administration.

“I’m a rich man, I made a lot of money during the Kibaki government and I financed UDA campaigns without receiving a penny from him (President Ruto) in Mt Kenya,” Gachagua said.

The second in command rubbished reports that he was planning on jumping ship amid fallout with his party leader.

Gachagua asserted that those waiting to see him leave would be disappointed, adding that the region contributed close to 50% of Ruto’s votes.

“This is our party, and those who assume we are leaving will be disappointed, we contributed 47 percent of votes,” Gachagua said.

Earlier, the Deputy President said he was not consulted regarding the sacking of Cleophas Malala as UDA party secretary general.

Gachagua revealed that he had planned to attend the National Executive Council meeting, but the other officials convened the meeting at 5am.

He called for respect, arguing that the manner in which Malala’s issue was handled could quickly cause divisions in the ruling party.
