In anticipation of the Finance Bill 2024 debate, Ruto announced a crisis meeting with all Kenya Kwanza MPs on Tuesday morning, June 18, where expectations are high for decisive leadership.

This comes after a section of MPs criticised the deputy president for allegedly fostering tribalism through his one-man, one-shilling equity campaign.

They have also accused him of occasionally absenting himself from official events, including welcoming ceremonies after foreign trips by his boss.

Meanwhile, the deputy president has called on Kenyans to support him in speaking the truth, asserting that his efforts are aimed at uniting the people of Mt Kenya amidst opposition.

On Monday, June 17, Ruto  returned to the country from Switzerland after a G7 summit. However, Gachagua was absent at the airport to welcome him back, contrary to the usual practice when a head of state returns after a foreign visit.
