Speaking on Sunday, August 4, Gachagua faulted the leadership of the UDA party in the manner in which they sacked Malala. The deputy president disclosed that he was not consulted on the plans to replace the former Kakamega senator.

Gachagua revealed that he had planned to attend the National Executive Council meeting, but the other officials convened the meeting at 5am.

“No one consulted me on the ouster of Cleophas Malala. They evicted him at 5am. That is not how a ruling party should be behaving. As a party deputy leader, I wanted to attend but by 6am I was told by my people that the meeting was over,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua called for respect, arguing the manner in which Malala’s issue was handled could easily bring divisions in the ruling party.

“Let us have some respect and decorum because such issues will just bring more battles in the country. We already have people battling against the Presidency, others from the Gen-z, the finance bill, and now we want to bring battles into the party, let us calm down and refrain from instigating more battles because we already have a lot of them,” he added.

Meanwhile, a new twist rocked the ouster of Malala from the UDA party’s secretary-general post. The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal issued an order barring the ruling party’s national executive from meeting.

The order, however, came after the committee had met on the dawn of Friday, August 2, and resolved to kick Malala out.

The PPDT had stayed the meeting until a case filed by Malala was heard and determined. The former Kakamega senator had moved to the High Court in Nairobi seeking to block the party’s executive from convening the aforesaid meeting...CONTINUE READING>>
