Families of suspected arsonists who torched a nightclub owned by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Wednesday pleaded with the lawmaker to facilitate the release of their relatives. The parents, therefore, asked Sudi for forgiveness and pleaded for their subsequent release as the they claim the lamaker had promised.

Speaking to the media, the residents further lamented that some of the arrested individuals, among them orphans, had no means of paying the Ksh300,000 bond slapped on each of them.

“We are asking Oscar Sudi to please have mercy on us. We have been coming here everyday after work but we are still taken in circles,” Brian Luta, a resident of Eldoret, stated.

“We have come to court now for the fourth time without success. We are always told return in the afternoon or in the evening,” Christopher Barno, another resident, lamented.

Mercy Chebet lamented that the lawmaker had publicly declared in the press that he forgave the youth but maintained most of the youth were yet to be freed.

“Sudi went to the media and said that he had forgiven our loved ones. If indeed he forgave them, we are asking him to do so (secure their release) and please forgive us if we wronged him,” Mercy Chebet, whose brother is among the arrested, appealed.

In June, a group of youth were captured on video damaging Timba XO club as part of the protests that erupted countrywide. Shortly after the incident, the vocal MP revealed in the press that he forgave all the suspects.

“Timba XO, Timba Club and everything I spent about Ksh250 million on, It is better to lose that (wealth) than to kill people,” he stated at the time.

“We lost everything valued at Ksh48 million, including the hotel. They stole everything, but it is okay. I want to ask those who stole equipment at Timba XO to return it and we will not take action. Some of the items, like speakers, can’t be used anywhere because they are programmed.”

In the wake of the incident, Sudi revealed that over 200 workers at the club lost their jobs, which was their main source of livelihood.

The suspects are detained at Eldoret Maximum Prison after Principal Magistrate Kesse Choronoh found them guilty of stealing, vandalism and theft.
