In addition to Miano being left out, former Defence CS Aden Duale was reassigned to the Environment and Forestry Ministry.

This position was previously held by Soipan Tuya, who was  moved to Defence. The former Attorney General Justin Muturi was re-appointed to serve in the Ministry of Public Service.

Some Kenyans had earlier claimed that Miano requested to step down from the position and sought “lighter duties” instead.

In a tweet, Miano  dismissed the reports as rumors but did not provide further details on the status of her nomination. The head of state announced the names of the remaining 11 Cabinet secretaries on Wednesday, July 24.

Among other Cabinet secretaries nominated, Ruto named Miano the nominee for Tourism just days after initially naming her Attorney General.

Miano was poised to become Kenya’s first female Attorney General, succeeding Justin Muturi. In other news, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga faced heavy criticism from Kenyans regarding President William Ruto’s Cabinet nominations.
