Despite reporting the incident to the authorities, the victim faced further trauma when she was charged with theft and fraud instead of receiving support.

The girl recounted her harrowing experience, stating, “I was ambushed by Okello on my way home from school. He raped me and got me pregnant. I reported him to the police, but they didn’t believe me. Instead, they charged me with theft and fraud and put me in police custody, where he found me and defiled me again.”

The victim’s pleas for help were met with further betrayal when she reported the incident to Okello’s superior, Pamella Kahuma, who confirmed the girl’s pregnancy and defilement but instructed her to keep quiet, promising police support that never materialized.

The girl, now a mother of a two-month-old baby, was forced to leave her aunt’s home due to threats from the police and is struggling to pay rent. Her story has sparked widespread outrage, with local leaders demanding justice and police reform.

“This is a clear case of police brutality and sexual exploitation,” said Maria Nankuzze, Lwengo probation officer.

“We will fight for justice for this child and her baby. We demand that the police take action against Okello and ensure that he faces the full force of the law.”

The victim is receiving support from local authorities and civil society organizations, but her plight highlights the need for systemic change.

“I just want justice,” she said.

“I want Okello to face the law. I want to ensure that no other girl goes through what I went through.”

Masaka Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye acknowledged that their officer defiled the girl but claimed she was already pregnant at the time, and that the victim withdrew charges against Okello.

However, the incident has raised concerns about police conduct and the treatment of victims of sexual exploitation.

“This case highlights the need for police reform,” said Lwengo district chairperson Ibrahim Kitatta.

“We need to ensure that our police officers are held accountable for their actions. We will work with the police to ensure that justice is served and that our communities are protected.”

The teenage mother has since been taken to a children’s home in Lwengo, where she will receive support and care. Her courageous story has brought attention to the urgent need for change within the police force and the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society…CONTINUE READING>>
