Speaking during the ODM Party Parliamentary Group Meeting on Wednesday, July 17, the ODM leader warned that the ‘Ruto must go’ push might have dire consequences.

According to Raila, those pushing for Ruto’s ouster might not be aware of the consequences of having Ruto out of power.

He pointed out that in Ruto’s absence, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will take over the government and continue implementing the bad laws formulated by the Kenya Kwanza administration. “Ruto goes, then what?

Ruto may go then Gachagua takes over [to continue] implementing bad policies. Ruto can also say ‘I am tired, let the [military] generals take over. Then the country begins to go through what Egypt went through after Taharir Square. ‘Ruto must go’ cannot be an end,” Raila stated.

The ODM leader backed the dialogue called by Ruto, arguing that the country needs consultative talks to resolve the current crisis.

“It’s at times of crisis like this that a country needs to talk. We are not doing it to save Ruto. We are doing it to save Kenya. Generals don’t have teargas. They don’t have water cannons. They have bullets,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Azimio leader quashed allegations of striking a secret agreement with the Kenya Kwanza  government.

In a statement on X, Raila said that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) never claimed to be collaborating with the government.
