During his visit with other ODM leaders to the market, Raila expressed his condolences to those affected, many of whom lost their businesses and colleagues in the incident.

“I am so sorry for the loss. I saw the pictures in which one person was burnt beyond recognition and felt the pain. I cried my all. Death by fire is very painful. I am very sorry.

That is my lorry over there. I have brought 1,000 iron sheets and KSh 1.5 million cash. I want this money to benefit everyone,” Raila said, adding that he has spoken with Governor Johnson Sakaja who also pledged support.

As per Raila’s statement, the fire outbreak was a result of a dispute over the ownership of the market land.

The opposition leader, widely respected in Kibera, urged the relevant authorities to promptly construct a perimeter wall around the market to safeguard vendors’ goods and prevent future incidents.

“Toi Market traders were severely hit by the recent fire. To protect their wares and livelihoods, a perimeter wall is urgently needed. I call on the relevant authorities to act swiftly and make this a priority. I want the market to be rebuilt and I will open it myself,” he demanded.

In other news, Raila revealed that President William Ruto approached him for support to deal with Gen Z following the dismissal of his Cabinet.
