During the 90s, King Charles was accused of using William and Harry in his battles with their mother following the couple’s split. Decades on, the monarch has not seen his grandchildren Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for two years and there are currently no plans to change that, royal experts believe.
The relationship between Harry and the Royal Family seems to be deteriorating further as time passes, with the couple and their children living in the US since they stepped down as senior royals in early 2020. Speculation has mounted that communication lines between the King and Harry are currently closed.
They are said to be no longer talking with the long-running issues seeing their estrangement deepen. It had been hoped that father and son were on the road to begin repairing their rift, especially after they met when Harry dashed to the UK when it was announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.
The then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana with their children in 1995 Tom Quinn, author of Scandals of the Royal Palaces: An Intimate Memoir of Royals Behaving Badly, told The Mirror the situation is all too familiar. Using the infants as ‘bargaining chip’ has reportedly not gone down well within the household and the King is highly unimpressed.
The writer said: “His desire to punish his father for not apologising for the past has become obsessive and it is ironic that he is now using his children in the battle with his father just as King Charles and Diana used William and Harry in their battles.
Despite Harry’s attacks on the royal family his father has avoided responding by attacking his son publicly, but privately King Charles is furious.
“So much so that he is now refusing to take calls from his son. Charles believes Harry should let bygones be bygones for the sake of Archie and Lilibet, but he senses that access to the children is being used as a bargaining chip and that, in Charles’ view, is unforgivable.”
Hopes were raised that the royal pair were starting repairing their rift, especially after they met when Harry dashed to the UK after it was announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.
However, weeks later when the Duke of Sussex returned to the UK for a 10th anniversary service for the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral, there was no meeting between the duo – with Harry suggesting his dad was too busy to schedule in a meeting.
But sources close to the Duke have now claimed that Harry’s calls to his dad are going unanswered as he tries to discuss his security arrangements with his father.
The 39-year-old has been embroiled in a long-running battle over his security when he comes to the UK after he automatically lost the right to his police protection when he quit the UK four years ago.
In February the Duke of Sussex lost his High Court challenge to the ruling that there was nothing unlawful in the decision to downgrade his taxpayer-funded police protection as a non-working royal.
He intends to appeal the High Court security decision but experts predict he will travel alone to the Invictus Games in Birmingham in 2027…CONTINUE READING>>Â
