This prestigious honour acknowledges Ruto’s exceptional efforts in promoting transparency, accountability, and public participation, which have positioned Kenya as a leader in governance innovation across Africa. The award was presented during Kenya’s 5th National Action Plan launch under the Open Government Partnership.
This marks the second time Ruto has received the Golden Plate Award, with his first induction into the American Academy of Achievement occurring in 2022. At that time, he was recognized for his inspiring life journey from humble beginnings in rural Kenya to the nation’s highest office.
Ruto now joins an esteemed group of global leaders who have been similarly honoured, including former US President Barack Obama, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and the late South African President Nelson Mandela. Ruto’s international accolades extend beyond this recent recognition.
In May 2024 during a visit to the United States, he became the second Kenyan president to receive the Outstanding Leaders Award from the US-Africa Business Center.
This award, presented by US Vice President Kamala Harris, acknowledged Ruto’s efforts in attracting investments and promoting business-led solutions to drive Kenya’s economic growth.
The Kenyan President’s focus on economic development has been a cornerstone of his administration, reflected in his growing international reputation. His ability to secure high-level recognition demonstrates his government’s strategy to position Kenya as a key player in regional and global affairs.
Ruto’s leadership has also been celebrated across Africa with Ghana awarding him the Companion of the Order of the Star of the Volta, the nation’s highest honor. Similarly, Guinea-Bissau bestowed upon him the ‘Medalha AmÃlcar Cabral’, their highest civilian honor, in recognition of his bravery and leadership.
