President William Ruto has thrown open the doors to leadership in four critical independent bodies, urging Kenyans to step forward and apply for positions at the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC).....CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE>>>

The appeal comes as the current leadership of these bodies nears the end of their six-year, non-renewable terms.

A notice issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on Thursday, 29 August, outlines the need for a smooth transition within these institutions. Koskei emphasised that the President encourages all eligible Kenyans to respond to the “clarion call to serve the nation.”

The notice, however, did not specify deadlines for when the positions would be filled. Those departing office include Lyn Mengich, Chairperson of the SRC, and Anne Makori, Chairperson of the IPOA.

The President’s directive also includes a call for public participation. Once candidates are shortlisted, Kenyans are urged to submit memoranda on the suitability of the nominees.

To manage this significant transition, President Ruto has appointed selection panels for each commission. These panels are composed of various representatives from professional societies, government departments, and other stakeholders.

The appointments are crucial for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of these bodies, which play vital roles in governance and public accountability.

The panel tasked with selecting the Chairperson of the SRC includes eight members: Joshua Wambua from the Association of Professional Societies in East Africa (APSEA), Patrick Mtange from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Monica Sifuna from the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), Quresha Abdullahi from the Institute of Human Resource Management, Amos Gathecha and Mary Kimonye representing the State Department for Public Service, Lawrence Kibet from the National Treasury & Economic Planning, and Samuel Kaumba from the Office of the Attorney General.

For the CAJ, the panel will select a Chairperson and two members. The panel is led by Edwin Makori from APSEA, and includes Zena Atetwe Jalenga from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Jasper Mbiuki from the Executive Office of the President, Susan Chelagat from the Office of the Attorney General, Ambassador Patrick Wamoto, and Joan A. Machayo from the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The NGEC selection panel, tasked with appointing a Chairperson and one member, includes Arch. Florence Nyole from APSEA, Timothy Odongo from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance, Lerina Kariringah from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Linda Musumba from the Executive Office of the President, Janet Kung’u from the Office of the Attorney General, Maimuna A. Mwidau from the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts & Heritage, Dr. Reuben K. Chirchir, and Dr. Mary Mwiandi from the PSC.

Lastly, the IPOA selection panel, which will appoint a Chairperson and seven members, is made up of Arthur Osiya from the Executive Office of the President, and (Rtd) Justice Msagha Mbogholi from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The others are Dr. Joyce Nyabuti from the PSC, Dr. Monica Wanjiru Muiru from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Dr. Raymond Nyeris representing the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), and Caroline Naikena Lentupuru from the NGEC…CONTINUE READING>>
