However, President Buhari blamed the instability in Libya as the major cause of the insecurity bedeviling Nigeria and the Sahel region.

It will interest you to note that while receiving Letters of Credence from Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, Juan Alfred Miranda Oritz, and Ambassador James Kingston, on Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari applauded the combined efforts of nations toward fighting security challenges all over the world, and within Nigeria, appealing for more partnership to check insurgency, terrorism, and banditry.

Through a statement signed by Femi Adesina his spokesperson, the president notified the diplomats that collaboration across borders is highly recommended to curb insecurity.

He added that climate change, global insecurity, and the post-COVID-19 era have devastated global economies. Many nations of the world are struggling to recover from all of these.

Also, President Buhari cited how the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has weakened the progress most countries have accomplished in tackling food security in the last decade.

In the Sahel, he said, the political instability in Libya continues to fuel terrorism in the region as they try to sustain democracy both in the West and Central African regions.

He added that Nigeria is not left out of the challenges, as the country is fighting hard to get rid of banditry, herder/farmer crisis, kidnapping, and insurgency.

He said that Nigeria is making progress to support neighboring countries in Africa to sustain the fight against insecurity until they overcome these challenges.

President Buhari said that at the regional level, Nigeria has been working with other member-states of ECOWAS and regional blocs to deal with the challenges of trans-border crimes, terrorism, illicit drugs, maritime crimes, especially piracy, human trafficking, banditry, illegal fishing on our waters, and unconstitutional change of government.
