The Chelsea squad might indeed have won their 3 matches consecutively but the truth remains that the squad is lagging a lot upfront and this might be caused by Graham Potter’s sentimental selection of players.
Chelsea’s squad has been unable to score more than 10 ten goals in their last 20 matches because of attacking problems: The squad (players) of the Chelsea football club has all it takes to be banging in numerous goals in every single match they play. But the reverse is always the case because of the partial sentimental selection pattern of Graham Potter when it comes to Chelsea’s attacking position.
Graham Potter rotates Chelsea football club’s players in diverse positions during starting lineup or substitution but never does so at the striking position. This is where Chelsea football is having a setback as the striker (Havertz) performs poorly in converting chances into goals.
Potter in Chelsea’s defensive position rotates the likes of Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, Ben Stillwell, Trevor Chalobah, Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Wesley Fofana in Chelsea’s defensive starting lineup or during substitution. He (Potter) also rotates the likes of Denis Zakaria, Conor Gallagher, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-cheek, Mason Mount, and Enzo Fernandez in Chelsea’s midfield role.
Now at the winger’s side, the likes of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Hakim Ziyech, Mudryk, and Christian Pulisic do observe rotation in Chelsea’s wing-forward position.
Yet Potter finds it hard to rotate Kai Havertz, Aubameyang, and Datro Fofana in Chelsea’s striking role even when Havertz hasn’t been in fine form (consistent in scoring goals) in that position leading to Chelsea’s goal droughts in most matches.
There is every tendency that Datro Fofana or Aubameyang might begin to score goals consistently if given the kind of game time which was given to Havertz.
