Having accrued 10 points from 5 games in Group A2, ‘The Seleção’ needed just one point from tonight’s encounter with Spain to seal passage to the final four, a task which they failed to actualize.

With the match heading for a goalless draw, Alvaro Morata rose to the occasion and gave Spain the goal they so needed.

Cristiano Ronaldo who captained his side for the entire 90 minutes fired blank for the second game in a row and drew reactions from many fans across the globe who think the Man United star is “finished”.

“The end is near I believe”, said ‘Anshuman’ who’s convinced that Ronaldo currently lacks the “sharpness” he was known for.

Judging from Cristiano’s performance today, ‘Zach’ believes it’s time for Portugal’s younger players like Rafael Leao and Joao Felix to be given more game time over their skipper.

It remains to be seen if Ronaldo will bounce back from this disastrous display, but if his poor form continues, then Portugal manager Fernando Santos could be forced to make the difficult decision of dropping his captain from the national team starting XI for the World Cup.
