Wisconsin will be the second state on Harris’ tour of swing states after announcing Walz as her Democrat ic vice presidential pick on Tuesday, just hours before she kicked off the tour with a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

With 10 Electoral College votes, Wisconsin is expected to be one of the closest races across the country in November. The state is roughly evenly divided by Democrats, bolstered by massive margins in cities like Milwaukee and Madison, and Republicans, who have seen increasing margins in the state’s more rural areas.

Harris emerged as the Democratic presidential nominee after Biden withdrew from the race last month amid pressure from Democrats concerned about polls showing Trump leading key states, including Pennsylvania. Biden’s poll numbers slipped following his debate against Trump in June, which fueled concerns about his age and ability to win in November.

For months, Harris polled similarly, or behind Biden. But her ascent to the top of the ticket sparked a wave of Democratic enthusiasm, and fundraising, that has shifted polls in her direction, giving Democrats more confidence about their ability to win.

The latest poll of the race, conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies on behalf ofThe Telegraph, found Harris and Trump in a dead heat, each receiving support from 43 percent of respondents. It was conducted from July 31 to August 3 among 567 likely voters.

Meanwhile, a Public Opinion Strategies survey conducted among 400 likely voters from July 23 to July 29 found Harris with a 2-point lead over Trump (48 percent to 46 percent). It had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.19 percentage points.

A Morning Consult/Bloomberg poll found Harris leading Trump by two points in a two-way race (49 percent to 47 percent), though Trump held a single point lead when other candidates were included (45 percent to 44 percent), according to FiveThirtyEight.

Elsewhere, a Fox News poll, conducted by Beacon Research/Shaw & Company Research, found Trump up by one point (50 percent to 49 percent). It was conducted from July 22 to July 24 among 1,046 registered voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

FiveThirtyEight’s polling aggregate gives Harris a narrow advantage, but still points to a close race. Harris is leading by an average of about 1.4 points in recent polls, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Harris will be holding the event in Eau Claire. While it is not viewed as one of the two Democratic powerhouses in the state, margins in smaller cities are pivotal for Democrats hoping to carry it. Notably, it is also located closer to the Minnesota border.

Democrats are hoping Walz can help the Harris campaign connect with voters in Midwestern and Rust Belt states like Wisconsin, as well as Michigan and Pennsylvania.

President Joe Biden won Wisconsin by only 0.63 percentage points in 2020, making it one of his smallest margins across the country. Only Arizona and Georgia, both of which are also 2024 battlegrounds, backed him by a smaller margin.

In 2016, however, Trump won Wisconsin by 0.7 points...CONTINUE READING>>
