Allan Lichtman shared his final verdict and revealed the moment that sealed the potential fate of the upcoming
race.
Lichtman was one of the few scholars to correctly predict Donald Trump’s 2016 win.
This belief has not rolled over into 2024 as the historian shared a damning verdict for the former President.
Lichtman revealed his belief that Kamala Harris would win the upcoming race.
The historian has become famous for his 13-point Keys method used to form his near-perfect predictions.
His Keys to the White House formula consists of 13 true or false statements.
The incumbent party is predicted to win if five of fewer of his statements are false.
Lichtman shared the key moment he believed won Harris his prediction.
The historian believed the Democratic Party’s move to throw their support behind Harris and avoid a Primary after Joe Biden dropped out was monumental.
“The Democrats finally got smart and united overwhelmingly behind Vice President Harris,” he told The New York Times.
This meant Lichtman noted Harris’s campaign down as true for his no primary contest key.
Other true keys have included no third party challenger, a strong short term economy, major policy changes, stronger long-term economic growth in the last two terms of Biden’s tenure.
In fact, Lichtman’s only confident false answers were for the midterm gains key, as the Democrats lost House seats, the incumbency key, as Biden is not running for re-election, and the incumbent charisma key.
Lichtman noted two keys that could swing either way.
The historian said his foreign policy failure and foreign policy success keys could switch due to the government’s handling of the war in Gaza.
Lichtman explained that even if these two keys flipped to Trump, he would still not be predicted to win as that would add up to five false answers.
The other keys that swung in Harris’s favor were no major social unrest and no White House scandal.
The historian backed his prediction model and verdict.
“They are the constant northern star of political prediction,” he said.
