The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo while disclosing the matter, noted that several protestors had already secured their release from various police stations within Nairobi.

According to the LSK boss, her team was still process of mobilizing more releases, vowing to hold a vigil at the Central Police Station if all the protestors were not set free.

Her claim has however been disputed by social justice activist “Hanifa” on social media platform X. Kenyans.co.ke as of the time of publishing, can not ascertain the validity of either person’s claims.

Among those released include protestors who had been detained at Kilimani Police Station, Kamukunji and the Central Police Station.

“After a long day of dedicated efforts from members of the LSK across Nairobi, we are happy to inform the public that the protestors are currently being released from Kilimani, Kamukunji and Central Police Stations,” the LSK boss noted.

To ensure all the protestors were released, Faith Odhiambo called on the LSK members within Nairobi to report to Kamukunji Police Station to assist in releasing more detainees.

“We remain steadfast in ensuring the rule of law is not circumvented and the rights of our people are respected,” Faith Odhiambo noted.

“We appreciate the support and encouragement from the public and laud all the brave Advocates who came out today to stand for what is right,” she added.

LSK’s move comes hours after the law society threatened to sue Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei on grounds of interfering with demonstrators.

Bungei wasaccused Bungei of unlawfully deploying his officers to interfere with the peaceful protests. LSK thus called on the police commander to immediately withdraw the police officers or face legal action.

“We demand that Bungei calls off his directive immediately and instructs his officers to stand down from making any arbitrary arrest or meting violence against the protestors,” read part of a statement by LSK.

“We are closely monitoring today’s events and will take legal action to find Bungei and any officer who violates the rights of the protestors on account of his instructions personally liable for any breaches of the Constitution and the National Police Service Act,” the statement added…CONTINUE READING>>
