The officer shot the judge who was identified as Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti inside court number 9 after she made a ruling in a fraud case involving Sh. 2.9 million.

“During an open court session earlier today, the Magistrate cancelled the bond for an accused person who had jumped bond and had failed to offer satisfactory explanations for jumping bond,” a statement fromWinfridah B. Mokaya said.

Immediately this decision was given, the police officer who was identified as Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Londiani Police Station in Bomet County, drew his gun at the judge.

He shot the judge on the hip and chest. Police officers in the court responded and shot him dead. His body was moved to the City Mortuary. Three other police officers are reported to have also been injured in the shooting.

Reports say that the officer was the husband of the accused woman, Jennifer Wairimu, who the judge ruled against.
