Officers were called to the scene on Boarshaw Road in the early hours of the morning yesterday (Sunday) following ‘reports of concern for the welfare of a woman’. Police believe the woman had been sexually assaulted.

She is now being supported by specialist officers while an investigation is carried out. No arrests have been made yet.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “At 12:30am yesterday (28 July) we were called to reports of concerns for welfare of a woman on Boarshaw Road in Middleton. It’s believed that a woman was sexually assaulted.

“She is being supported by specially trained officers, and a scene is in place whilst we conduct further enquiries. No arrests have been made at this stage.
